Initially there was silence among the BCCI officials regarding the future of BCCI president N Srinivasan, but now many of them, along with Sundar Raman, have joined hands, and are demanding the ouster of Srinivasan. BCCI treasurer Ajay Shirke is even considering resignation if the betting scandal is not handled properly by the BCCI.
Shirke earlier said, “I am not a very senior member of the board to know the previous crisis. In current times this is a serious crisis. I will not hide my decision for too long. I have been considering this for some time now. I cannot be hasty about it. Some people might accuse me that I am running away from the problems. The financial year has ended and audits are on, I consider that as a responsibility. The issue should be discussed among all the members in a proper meeting.”
Former BCCI and ICC president Jagmohan Dalmiya also felt that ‘masala cricket’ like the IPL must stop in order to clean the game in the near future.
“I am not saying that you take out a small portion from the system and a complete clean up will be achieved. The board needs to sit down, make a committee, make some people come across the table in a committee with some sensible people. In this process if a number of heads roll, let them roll,” Dalmiya said.
