For a while, rumors of an upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake have been swirling around, and credible leaks claiming to confirm that the game is in production have heightened anticipation. Despite this, Capcom has yet to acknowledge the existence of the game, and as such, no release date has been announced. However, past leaks do suggest that gamers may be lucky enough to get it in 2022.

Leaks and Rumors Surround Resident Evil 4 Remake
Reputable leakers in the gaming community have claimed that a Resident Evil 4 remake is on the way for a long time. DuskGolem, who is a popular and trusted Resident Evil leaker, claims that the game is internally codenamed “Chainsaw,” and it will likely not be an exclusive title for any console manufacturer. Leaks have also come from the voice actor D.C. Douglas, who has claimed he is Albert Wesker in the upcoming game. To bolster his claim, he shared concept art images of Wesker, but he has since deleted his Twitter account.
Another leak came from Nvidia, when the company suffered a data breach. Information from the company’s GeForce Now database was released to the public, and it featured a list of unreleased PC games, including Resident Evil 4’s remake. Although, after the leak, Nvidia claimed that the list contains “released and/or speculative titles, used only for internal tracking and testing,” many of the games have since been released, including the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy remaster and God of War’s PC port. Understandably, many believe it is only a matter of time before Resident Evil 4’s remake is also released.
Will Resident 4 Remake Release in 2022?
Because Capcom has yet to confirm that a remake of Resident Evil 4 is on the way, it is impossible to conclusively determine when the game will release, if at all. However, if leaks are to be believed, a Resident Evil 4 remake may release in 2022. When Capcom was hacked in 2020, plenty of internal information was released to the public, including alleged plans to release several games in 2022. This includes Street Fighter 6, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and Resident Evil 4 Remake.
More detail-oriented sleuths argue Capcom has been dropping subtle Resident Evil 4 Remake clues, indicating that the game is close to release. In August 2021, Capcom sent out a cryptic tweet with the words “4. Itchy. Tasty.” Some gamers have interpreted this as a Resident Evil 4 Remake hint, others claim it is merely a reference to a famous Resident Evil line.
Another Resident Evil 4 Remake hint can possibly be found in Sony’s 2021 PlayStation Showcase trailer. Some have claimed that it features hints at future releases, and this argument has some basis to it, as Aloy can briefly be spotted in a Fall Guys costume, which preceded her appearing in the game. The logo which Resident Evil 4 uses for the Las Plagas parasite can also be found in the trailer, suggesting that the remake might be just around the corner.
Capcom has a busy year ahead with Resident Evil, and gamers can expect Resident Evil Village DLC as well as the multiplayer game Resident Evil Re: Verse in the near future. Leaks suggest that Resident Evil 4’s remake is also on the menu, and if this is true, it could end up stealing the show in a year already filled with big-budget releases.
Resident Evil 4 Remake is rumored to be in development.
