King—in addition to Emerald Fennell and Chloé Zhao who were also nominated for best director for their films Promising Young Woman and Nomadland, respectively—joins a small group of women to be nominated in the category. Before the 2021 Golden Globes nominations, the only women to land nominations for best director were Jane Campion, Ava DuVernay, Sofia Coppola, Kathryn Bigelow—and Barbra Streisand, who is the only woman to ever actually win the award.
As for King’s upcoming appearance on SNL, it’s anyone’s guess what the Watchmen star has planned. If the promo video for this week’s show is any indication, it’s safe to say the SNL cast is excited to have the award-winner serve as host—or at least Beck Bennett is. In the clip (above), the SNL repertory player is thrilled when King agrees to be his Valentine, despite the fact that he already asked his wife.
